Senegal international Souleymane Faye has completed a loan move to French Ligue 1 side FC Lorient from Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon as he looks to continue his development and secure more regular first-team football.
The 23-year-old attacker joins Lorient for the season with an option to make the transfer permanent, reportedly set at €6.5 million.
Lorient confirmed the arrival of Faye on Saturday, describing the Senegalese player as an attacking option capable of operating on either wing or through the centre as a striker.
The Breton club believes his pace, dribbling ability and attacking instincts can add a new dimension to their forward line.
Sporting director Laurent Koscielny praised Faye’s qualities and said the Senegalese winger matches the profile Lorient were searching for, while also highlighting his attitude and room for further improvement.

After joining Granada in Spain’s second division, the Senegalese forward enjoyed a breakthrough campaign and quickly became one of the club’s most promising attacking players.

The Portuguese champions moved to secure his services during the January 2026 transfer window, giving Faye the opportunity to test himself at a higher level.

Although his opportunities were limited, he featured in five Liga Portugal matches and made two appearances in the UEFA Champions League, exposure that helped accelerate his development.
Before his move to Sporting, Faye built his reputation in Spain.
He previously played for CF Talavera before continuing his progression with Real Betis’ reserve side. His performances eventually earned him a move to Granada, where he made his professional debut and began attracting wider attention.
Now at Lorient, Faye hopes to rediscover regular playing time and continue the progress that has marked his young career.
