Barcelona are maintaining a calm stance over Ferran Torres’ future despite reports of interest from Paris Saint-Germain, with the club still committed to extending the Spain forward’s contract.
Torres is entering the final year of his current deal, but Barcelona do not intend to begin formal negotiations until September, after the player has returned from his summer holiday and joined Hansi Flick’s squad for training.
According to Catalan newspaper Sport, the club’s position has not changed. Barcelona’s sporting department continues to regard a new contract for Torres as its preferred outcome, although it sees no need to accelerate the process before the summer transfer window has closed.
Speculation has increased in recent weeks over an alleged preliminary agreement between Torres and Paris Saint-Germain. However, sources within Barcelona say the club has received no official approach from the French side. They also say Torres and his agent have not indicated that the forward wants to leave the club.
Barcelona are following a process they have used with other players who entered the final year of their contracts. Frenkie de Jong and Eric Garcia were not rushed into renewing their deals, eventually signing extensions in October and December respectively.
That approach reflects the sporting department’s belief that there is no need for immediate action in cases of this nature. The club considers Torres an important part of its sporting plans and intends to make him a renewal offer that fits its established wage policy and reflects its assessment of his performances.
Barcelona believe Torres’ current salary is appropriate for his importance to the team. Any increase would therefore need to remain within the club’s financial limits.
The next significant step is expected to come when Torres returns from his break. Barcelona wants to speak to him directly to establish his intentions, particularly because all the current information about Paris Saint-Germain’s interest has come from media reports rather than formal contact between the two clubs.
If Torres tells Barcelona that he wants to leave, the situation could change significantly. The club would then consider whether a transfer agreement could be negotiated that satisfies all parties.
If the forward does not express a desire to depart, Barcelona will continue planning for the new season with Torres in the squad. It would then seek to extend his contract on terms that match both its financial position and its sporting vision.
For now, Barcelona is waiting for the player’s view before deciding how the situation develops. No official proposal from Paris Saint-Germain has reached the club, and the Catalan side remains focused on retaining Torres rather than preparing for his departure.
