Al-Ittihad have made a renewed attempt to sign Sofyan Amrabat from Fenerbahce, offering €12m for the Morocco midfielder as they look to strengthen their squad before the start of the new season.
The Saudi club are continuing their activity in the summer transfer market and have identified Amrabat as a key target for the holding midfield position. The proposed deal also includes an attractive financial package for the player, in an effort to persuade him to move to the Roshn Saudi League.
Al-Ittihad are seeking to reinforce the position after the departure of Fabinho. The Brazilian midfielder’s contract with the club expired and the Saudi side decided against extending his stay, leaving what they regard as a significant gap in the centre of the team.
According to Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur, the latest offer has now been submitted to Fenerbahce for the purchase of Amrabat’s contract. The proposal is understood to be worth €12m, with separate financial terms being presented to the player.
The final decision is now with Fenerbahce and Amrabat, with both considering the offer before determining the midfielder’s future in the coming days. No agreement has yet been confirmed, but Al-Ittihad are keen to complete the transfer quickly as preparations for the new campaign gather pace.
Amrabat has established himself as one of the leading midfielders of recent years. He attracted widespread attention during Morocco’s run at the World Cup and has since gained further experience in both the English and Turkish leagues.
That background makes him an appealing option for Al-Ittihad, who want a player capable of bringing defensive strength, physical presence and experience to their midfield. The club believe his arrival could help compensate for the loss of Fabinho while giving the side greater balance ahead of its domestic and continental commitments.
