Manchester City have opened official discussions with Paris Saint-Germain over a possible deal for Senegal international Ibrahim Mbaye, with the French club reportedly seeking a total fee of about 50m euros for the 18-year-old.
City are looking for attacking reinforcements to cover the possibility of Savinho leaving and have approached PSG to establish the conditions of a potential transfer, according to transfer specialist Krrish.
PSG are not prepared to let Mbaye leave cheaply. The Paris club are understood to want a package worth close to 50m euros before considering a sale, despite the player currently being valued at 30m euros by specialist website Transfermarkt.
Mbaye is said to view a move to the Premier League positively. The Senegal forward considers England’s top flight an ideal destination for continuing his development and would welcome the opportunity to take the next step in his career there.
Several other English clubs are also monitoring the situation, but none has yet made a formal offer or held concrete discussions with PSG. Manchester City are therefore the side furthest along in the process and are continuing their assessment before deciding whether to pursue the transfer.
Mbaye remains under contract with Paris Saint-Germain until June 2028. His long-term agreement gives the French club a strong negotiating position as interest in the teenager grows.
The player is currently paid 910,000 euros per year by PSG, equivalent to 591,500,000 FCFA. His market value, meanwhile, is estimated at 30m euros by Transfermarkt.
City’s interest comes as they consider their attacking options and assess whether a replacement may be required for Savinho. No final decision has yet been made, and the club’s inquiries are currently focused on understanding the financial terms of a possible move.
For now, PSG’s valuation represents the main obstacle. Manchester City have made the first significant move in the pursuit of Mbaye, but any agreement would depend on whether they are willing to meet the French side’s demands and whether the player’s preference for a Premier League move develops into a formal transfer request.
The Senegal international’s contract in Paris runs for another two years beyond the current season, while his age and perceived potential have contributed to his growing reputation in the transfer market. With no rival English club having advanced to the stage of an offer or detailed negotiations, City remain the leading candidate should Mbaye leave PSG.
