Veteran Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha is close to signing for Chilean club Colo Colo after impressing at this summer’s World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The 40-year-old, who is a free agent after leaving Portuguese side Chaves, is expected to travel to Chile in the coming days to complete a medical before finalising the move.
His arrival was confirmed by Colo Colo president Anibas Mosa, who said the deal is effectively agreed subject to routine checks.
“Vozinha will travel to Chile in the next few days to undergo his medical and will be unveiled. He is in great shape, so we are really looking forward to his arrival,” Mosa told local media.
World Cup standout
Vozinha emerged as one of the surprise stars of the tournament, producing a series of standout performances for Cape Verde.
Against both Spain and Argentina, he delivered multiple crucial saves, underlining his enduring quality despite his age and helping to raise his profile on the global stage.
Those displays prompted interest from several clubs once his contract with Chaves expired, leaving him free to negotiate his next move.
The goalkeeper had options in Brazil, while Inter Miami – where Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez are under contract – also showed interest in signing him. However, those proposals are now expected to fall through with Colo Colo poised to secure his signature.
New chapter in Chile
Colo Colo, one of South America’s most prominent clubs, will become the latest stop in a long career that has taken Vozinha through various leagues and competitions.
Medical examinations are scheduled to take place after the weekend, with the contract to be signed once he has passed the tests.
The move will offer the Cape Verde international a new challenge in Chilean football following his recent World Cup exploits and the end of his spell in Portugal.
