Hamburg are exploring a move for Germany-Cameroon forward Noel Futkeu from Bundesliga rivals Frankfurt as they look to add a central striking option ahead of the new season. The 23-year-old centre-forward only arrived in Frankfurt this summer but is already being linked with a switch, with Hamburg understood to be monitoring his situation closely.
Futkeu joined Frankfurt on 1 July 2026 from Greuther Furth in a deal worth around €1.3m after a prolific campaign in the 2. Bundesliga. He finished last season as the division’s top goalscorer with 19 goals, earning a step up to the top flight and pushing his estimated value to about €7.5m following his move.
Born in Essen and eligible for both Germany and Cameroon, Futkeu has built his reputation as a right-footed centre-forward and has consistently produced goals as he has climbed the German pyramid. He was also the top scorer in the Oberliga Niederrhein in 2022-23, when he struck 30 times for SW Essen, a haul that first drew wider attention and eventually led to a move into the Frankfurt set-up.
Hamburg’s interest comes just weeks after Frankfurt secured the player, and any negotiations would be shaped by his recent transfer fee and current valuation. Futkeu’s contract length at Frankfurt has not been made public, but his rapid rise and back-to-back top scorer awards place the Bundesliga club in a strong position should formal talks with Hamburg develop.
