Joe Aidoo: Cork City sign Ghana midfielder on free transfer from Al-Sharq Club

Cork City have signed Ghanaian central midfielder Joe Aidoo from Al-Sharq Club on a free transfer. The 26-year-old joins the First Division side after leaving the Saudi Arabian outfit at the end of his spell there.

Aidoo, who was born on 13 December 1999, arrives in Ireland as a central midfielder with experience across several competitions in Asia. He most recently played for Al-Sharq Club, having moved there in 2025, also on a free transfer.

Before his time in Saudi Arabia, Aidoo had stints with Thunders and Bodoland FC, following an earlier period when he was without a club. His career path has also taken him through Nepal PC after starting out from an unnamed side earlier in his career.

Aidoo’s most productive period came in South Asia, where across league and cup competitions he recorded appearances and goals in the Nepal Super League, the Durand Cup and the Nepal Super League Championship. Across those tournaments, he combined goals and assists from midfield while collecting over 2,000 minutes of senior football.

The midfielder, who has previously been valued at up to €100,000 during his career, is listed primarily as a central midfielder and will add depth to Cork City’s options in the middle of the pitch. He officially joined the club on 16 July 2026 following the completion of his free transfer from Al-Sharq Club.
