Former Argentina international Claudio Martin Paris believes the World Cup holders must use their technical quality and ball control to break down Egypt in their Round of 16 clash at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Paris, who represented clubs including Estudiantes de La Plata, Newell’s Old Boys and Racing Club, says the knockout tie will be difficult, with the gap between teams at this tournament proving to be very small.
He believes Argentina’s best approach is to dominate possession, control the tempo and avoid being dragged into a physical battle with the Pharaohs.
“Argentina must impose its style through possession and circulation of the ball. The greatest advantage of the Argentine player is his ability to pass, handle the ball and create differences through individual talent.”
Paris warned Argentina against relying on long balls or physical confrontations, insisting their technical ability will be key against an organised Egyptian side.
“We should not get carried away by physical aggression and collisions with the Egyptian players. The difference must come through skill.”
Egypt reached the last 16 for the first time in their history, while Argentina are aiming to continue their defence of the World Cup title. The two sides meet in Atlanta with a place in the quarter-finals at stake.
