Fakhoury confident as Pyramids target semi-final and continental glory

Jordanian forward highlights ambition ahead of decisive clash

Jordan international Awda Fakhoury has expressed confidence in Pyramids FC’s ability to progress in the CAF Champions League, despite acknowledging the difficulty of their upcoming quarter-final second leg against FAR Rabat.

The match, scheduled for Saturday evening, follows a closely contested 1-1 draw in the first leg in Morocco. Speaking in an interview, Fakhoury stressed that his side is fully prepared to secure victory and advance to the semi-finals.

Ambition to go all the way

Having recently joined Pyramids during the winter transfer window, the 20-year-old forward outlined his personal and team ambitions in the competition. He revealed his desire to reach the latter stages of the tournament and ultimately lift the trophy.

Fakhoury is also aiming to achieve a personal milestone by becoming the first Jordanian player to win the CAF Champions League, should Pyramids succeed in their campaign. His comments reflect both individual motivation and alignment with the club’s broader objectives.

Immediate impact on the continental stage

The young striker has already made a notable impression since arriving at the club. He scored on his debut appearance in the competition against Rivers United, finding the net just five minutes after coming on as a substitute.

Reflecting on that moment, Fakhoury said: “It was a very special moment for me. Scoring in my first appearance and so quickly is important. It gave me great confidence and motivation to do more, and I felt that I would be influential with the team at any time.”

Professional approach amid limited opportunities

Despite not always being a regular starter, Fakhoury emphasised his commitment to the team and respect for the coaching staff’s decisions.

“These are the technical director’s decisions and must certainly be respected. As for me, I work daily to maintain my technical and physical readiness in order to get the opportunity to play, whether in the starting lineup or from the substitutes’ bench. I always look forward to taking advantage of the opportunity when it comes, but what matters to me, of course, is the team’s interest and achieving positive results and a series of victories.”

He also praised the environment at the club, adding: “The atmosphere at Pyramids is excellent, and there is a high level of professionalism at the club. Everyone helps me to give my best, and from day one I felt that I was part of this team, and I felt comfortable among the players.”

Choosing Pyramids and adapting to new challenges

Fakhoury joined Pyramids from Al-Hussein of Jordan after attracting interest from several clubs following his performances at both domestic and international levels, including the 2025 Arab Cup.

Explaining his decision, he said: “The club has a clear and ambitious project, and I felt it was the right place for me to develop myself and reach an advanced stage in football.”

He also noted the differences between leagues, pointing out that the Egyptian league demands greater speed, competitiveness and concentration compared to his previous experience in Jordan.

International duties on the horizon

Looking ahead, Fakhoury is set to link up with the Jordan national team for upcoming friendlies against Costa Rica and Nigeria in Turkey, under the guidance of coach Jamal Sellami.

“I am always ready to represent the national team, it is a great honor and I strive to give my best when I wear the Jordanian jersey,” he said.

He is also expected to be part of Jordan’s plans for the 2026 World Cup and the 2027 Asian Cup, as the national team continues to build a competitive squad for future tournaments.

Focus on opportunity and progression

As Pyramids prepare for a decisive encounter in the CAF Champions League, Fakhoury’s comments underline a player determined to seize his opportunity at both club and international level.

With ambition, confidence and early signs of impact, the young forward appears poised to play a role in his team’s continental aspirations while continuing his own development on a larger stage.
