Hervé Renard has officially joined Tunisia’s national team camp in Monterrey, beginning his mission as head coach of the Eagles of Carthage as they seek to rescue their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
The experienced French manager has immediately taken charge of preparations for Tunisia’s second Group F encounter against Japan on June 21, a match that has become vital following their disappointing start to the tournament.
Renard is expected to oversee intensive training sessions over the coming days as he works to implement his tactical ideas, restore belief within the squad, and prepare the players for a must-win challenge against the Samurai Blue.
The former Morocco and Saudi Arabia coach arrives with extensive experience in international football and a proven track record in Africa, having won the Africa Cup of Nations with both Zambia and Ivory Coast.
His appointment follows the departure of Sabri Lamouchi, who was relieved of his duties after Tunisia suffered a heavy 5–1 defeat against Sweden in their opening World Cup fixture.
With little time to make an impact, Renard’s immediate priority will be to reorganise a team low on confidence and reignite their hopes of achieving a historic first qualification for the FIFA World Cup knockout stages.
Tunisia now face a difficult test against a disciplined Japanese side, knowing that a positive result is essential to keep their chances of progression alive.
