Andre Onana sparks Barcelona speculation with message to Laporta

Speculation about the future of Andre Onana has emerged after the Cameroonian goalkeeper publicly congratulated Joan Laporta following his victory in the presidential elections at FC Barcelona.

Onana, who spent part of his development years in Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy, used a FaceTime call to send his congratulations to Laporta shortly after the election results were confirmed.

The goalkeeper later posted a snapshot of the conversation on social media, and emojis that hinted at his excitement about the club’s future.

The gesture has triggered conversations regarding a subtle indication that the Cameroonian shot-stopper could be interested in a return to the Catalan side.

While no formal move has been announced, the post has intensified speculation that Barcelona might be considering him as a potential addition in goal.

Onana already has a history with Barcelona during his youthful days.

He was part of Barcelona’s youth system, where he honed his skills before eventually moving abroad to seek first-team opportunities.

His career later flourished in the Netherlands with AFC Ajax, where he became one of Europe’s rated goalkeepers.

The Cameroon international subsequently moved to Manchester United, but his journey has taken another turn this season following a loan switch to Trabzonspor.

Since arriving in Turkey, the 29-year-old has made more than 20 appearances and recorded five clean sheets.

For now, the possibility of seeing Onana return to Barcelona is moderately low.

However, the public show of support for Laporta has certainly fueled talk about what the next chapter of his career might hold.

Meanwhile, Barcelona continue to look at options across several positions as they plan for the summer.

If the club eventually decides to strengthen its goalkeeping department, the Cameroonian could emerge as a familiar and compelling candidate.
