Egyptian club Al Ahly SC have completed the departure of Danish coach Jess Torop after a dramatic day of negotiations that reportedly lasted until the early hours of Thursday morning.
The club’s management moved to resolve one of the most sensitive issues facing the football department after reaching a final settlement agreement with the coach and his representatives, paving the way for an official announcement confirming the end of his spell at the Cairo club.
According to a source who spoke to the WinWin platform, Al-Ahly vice-president Yassin Mansour personally handled the negotiations in an effort to conclude the matter after complications emerged regarding the original agreement between the two parties.
The source stated that an initial understanding had been reached before Al-Ahly’s league match against Al Masry SC, with the expectation that the contract would be terminated by mutual consent.
However, the Danish coach reportedly later withdrew from that arrangement, forcing senior club officials to reopen discussions.
The source said Yassin Mansour used his connections in Denmark to directly contact the agency representing Torop in recent days.
The negotiations were reportedly facilitated by Mansour’s relationship within Danish football circles, with the source noting that his family owns a sports investment club in Denmark.
“He added: “Based on the contacts that took place in the past few days, an invitation was extended to Torop to come to Cairo, and he arrived there at 1:30 PM yesterday, Wednesday, coming from Greece.””
Upon arriving in Cairo, Torop reportedly headed directly to Al-Ahly’s headquarters in Gezira to begin discussions aimed at finalising the settlement.
According to the source, the coach entered his office in the football sector before being joined by Yassin Mansour, board member Sayed Abdel Hafeez and Dr. Abdullah Shehata, who serves as legal adviser to the football department.
The Danish coach was accompanied by his agent, a representative of his management company and Firas Ali, who reportedly acted as a mediator during the original negotiations that brought Torop to the club.
The discussions proved lengthy and intense.
The source explained: “The meeting lasted for about 9 full hours, until the settlement contracts were signed and the contract was terminated at about 3:00 AM on Thursday morning, with Torop receiving from Al-Ahly Club his salary for the month of June and 3 months’ value as a penalty clause, in addition to another amount that amounts to a monthly salary from outside the club.”
Further details also emerged regarding the financial settlement involving the coach’s representatives.
The source added: “The agent and the company representing Torop will receive the legal percentage of the total settlement amount, and not from the remaining period in Torop’s contract as they initially wanted.”
Al-Ahly are now expected to move quickly to reshape the technical structure of the first team following the end of Torop’s tenure.
The source indicated that the club would formally announce the departure of the Danish coach and both his Egyptian and foreign assistants within hours, while preparations are already under way to appoint a new coaching staff in the coming days.
The managerial change comes during a period of major restructuring at Al-Ahly following a disappointing season in which the club failed to secure several key domestic and continental titles, increasing pressure on the board to initiate significant changes ahead of the next campaign.
