Haitham Hassan has joined the training camp of the Egypt national football team as preparations continue for upcoming friendly matches ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Egyptian Football Association confirmed that the winger, who plays for Spanish side Real Oviedo, reported to the national team camp currently being held at the National Teams Centre in 6th of October City.
His arrival comes as Egypt step up their final preparations before travelling to the United States for a series of international friendlies and the start of their World Cup campaign.
The Pharaohs are scheduled to face Russia national football team in a friendly match next Thursday, 28 May, before later taking on Brazil national football team in the United States.
Those fixtures are expected to provide Egypt’s coaching staff with a final opportunity to assess the squad before the World Cup begins next month.
The 2026 tournament will be hosted jointly by the United States, Mexico and Canada, with Egypt drawn in Group G alongside Belgium national football team, Iran national football team and New Zealand national football team.
Haitham Hassan’s inclusion adds further attacking depth to a squad already containing several high-profile names, including Mohamed Salah, Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet, Ahmed Sayed Zizo and Omar Marmoush.
The Real Oviedo player featured in 38 matches across all competitions during the past season, accumulating 2,024 minutes on the pitch and contributing three assists.
Egypt’s squad for the training camp includes a mixture of experienced internationals and younger players as the team aims to make a strong impression on the global stage.
Goalkeepers selected for the camp are Mohamed El Shenawy, Mostafa Shobeir, El Mahdi Soliman and Mohamed Alaa.
Defensive options include Mohamed Hany, Ramy Rabia, Yasser Ibrahim, Mohamed Abdelmonem, Ahmed Fatouh and Karim Hafez among others.
In midfield, Egypt have called up players such as Marwan Attia, Emam Ashour, Nabil Emad Dunga and Ibrahim Adel.
The attacking department features Mohamed Salah, Marmoush, Trezeguet, Zizo, Haitham Hassan, Aktai Abdullah and Hamza Abdel Karim.
Egypt will hope the upcoming friendlies provide momentum before entering a demanding World Cup group that includes European heavyweight Belgium and a potentially difficult challenge against Iran and New Zealand.
The arrival of Haitham Hassan therefore represents another important step in the Pharaohs’ preparations as the team attempts to build rhythm, cohesion and confidence before the start of football’s biggest tournament.
