Algeria’s Haimad Abdelli wins Marseille’s Player of the Month award ahead of Togo clashes

Algerian midfielder Haimad Abdelli has received a major individual honour at Olympique Marseille after being named the club’s Player of the Month for October, just days before Algeria announce their squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Togo.

The 25-year-old was rewarded for his impressive performances throughout the month, during which he established himself as one of Marseille’s most influential players under coach Bruno Genesio.

The French club confirmed the award on Wednesday through its official social media platforms, recognising Abdelli’s contributions and impressive statistics during October.

The midfielder featured in five matches for Marseille during the month, scoring three goals in three French league appearances. His performances helped the club secure victories against Troyes, Angers and Le Havre, further underlining his growing importance to the team.

His recent displays represent a significant improvement from the difficulties he experienced when he initially joined Marseille from Angers during the previous winter transfer window. Having struggled to settle into his new surroundings, Abdelli has gradually found his rhythm and become an increasingly important member of the squad.

Abdelli’s Marseille performances earn individual recognition

Abdelli’s recognition as Marseille’s outstanding player for October reflects the progress he has made since arriving at the French club.

The Algerian international played an important role in the team’s three victories during the month, with his goalscoring contribution particularly impressive for a midfielder.

His ability to influence matches has strengthened his position within the squad and placed him among the club’s most notable performers in recent weeks.

The award also comes at an important moment for the player, with Algeria preparing for another international assignment in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

National team coach Ibrahim Hamdani is expected to announce his squad on Thursday, 5 November, ahead of the two encounters against Togo scheduled for 14 and 17 November.

Abdelli is widely expected to feature in the selection, given his current form at Marseille, although his performances during the previous international break were less convincing.

The midfielder struggled to make a significant impact when Algeria faced Zambia and Burundi in the previous round of qualifying matches and also played a friendly against Niger.

However, his improved performances at club level could provide him with renewed confidence as he prepares for another opportunity to represent his country.

Algeria count on Abdelli ahead of crucial Togo fixtures

Algeria will approach the upcoming double-header against Togo looking to strengthen their position at the top of Group 9 in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Desert Warriors currently lead the group with four points and will be targeting maximum points from their two meetings with the Togolese side.

Winning both matches would guarantee Algeria’s qualification for the next edition of the continental competition, making the upcoming fixtures particularly important for Hamdani’s team.

Abdelli will be hoping to carry his impressive Marseille form into the international arena and make a meaningful contribution to Algeria’s qualification campaign.

His latest individual recognition provides an encouraging boost ahead of the national team announcement, with the midfielder now looking to translate his club success into stronger performances for the Desert Warriors.
