Milan coach Amorim says he has never experienced such a strong connection with supporters as the one created by Sunday’s derby victory – not even during his time in the Premier League.
Milan play Ferencvarosi TC in the Europa League tomorrow, but Amorim used his pre-match media duties to reflect on the reaction to the Rossoneri’s win.
Speaking to Sky Sport, he said: “For me, it was unexpected. Even in the Premier League, I never felt this kind of closeness from the fans and the curva.”
Amorim said the atmosphere around the club had underlined the importance of the fixture to Milan’s supporters.
“All of this is very special, and I didn’t expect such a great atmosphere,” he added. “But I know how important a match like this is to the fans; even the children talk about the derby.”
The Milan coach said the significance of the result had also been recognised within the club by him and Gerry Cardinale.
“For us, it was a special day, and Gerry Cardinale and I both understood how important this match was for the club and the fans,” he said.
