Schmeichel says Tielemans inspired Manchester United comeback and Carrick ‘badly needed’ win

Peter Schmeichel believes Youri Tielemans transformed the momentum of the game after coming off the bench, while Michael Carrick’s victory came at a crucial time for the Manchester United manager.

Schmeichel said Tielemans produced his finest display in a Manchester United shirt, taking control in midfield and helping drive the side forward.

“Tielemans came off the bench and changed the entire game. It’s the best performance I’ve seen from him in a Manchester United shirt, and I’m really happy for him,” said Schmeichel.

“He took control of midfield, drove the team forward and showed real leadership. It was a fantastic display.”

The former Manchester United goalkeeper also suggested the result could prove an important moment for the team, particularly after they recovered from 2-0 down.

“In my opinion, this will be a significant turning point,” he added. “These players now understand what it means to be a Manchester United player and to compete on these big European nights.”

Schmeichel said the comeback reflected the character historically associated with Manchester United and expressed his support for Carrick, who he believes needed the result.

“Coming back from 2-0 down is exactly the kind of character Manchester United have shown over the years. I’m genuinely happy for Carrick; he really needed this win.”
