Manchester United v Roma: Malen set to lead visitors in Champions League clash

Roma will rely on Donyell Malen in attack when they visit Manchester United in the Champions League at Old Trafford.

The match starts at 21:00 CET (20:00 GMT), with the Italian side arriving in England without injured goalkeeper Mile Svilar, as well as Paulo Dybala, Lorenzo Pellegrini and Manu Kone.

Pierluigi Gollini is expected to replace Svilar in goal. Gianluca Mancini is also set to return to the starting XI after being left out of the side that beat Udinese 5-2 away on Saturday, according to Sky and other sources.

Rodrigo Mora is likely to begin the match among the substitutes, with Nicolo Pisilli, Marten de Roon and Bryan Cristante expected to form the central midfield. Emanuele Lulli or Nahuel Molina could operate on the right side of midfield.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s team have suffered only one defeat in all competitions this season. That came in a 4-3 home loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League on October 14.

Manchester United’s recent form is less encouraging. They have not won since beating Sabah FC on September 10, also in the Champions League, and have been defeated in four of their past five matches in all competitions.

Amazon Prime Video will show the game live in the UK and Ireland, while viewers in the USA can watch on Paramount+. Football Italia will provide live coverage through its live blog.

Probable line-ups

Manchester United are expected to line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Lammens in goal behind a defence of Yoro, Maguire, Lisandro Martinez and Dalot.

Mainoo and Santos are set to play in the deeper midfield positions, while Mbeumo, Tielemans and Bruno Fernandes will support Cunha in attack.

Roma’s predicted formation is 3-4-2-1. Gollini is likely to start behind Mancini, Ndicka and Hermoso.

Lulli or Molina could feature alongside De Roon, Pisilli and Wesley in midfield, with Soule and Cristante operating behind Malen.

Manchester United (4-2-3-1): Lammens; Yoro, Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, Dalot; Mainoo, Santos; Mbeumo, Tielemans, Bruno Fernandes; Cunha.

Roma (3-4-2-1): Gollini; Mancini, Ndicka, Hermoso; Lulli, De Roon, Pisilli, Wesley; Soule, Cristante; Malen.
