Al Ittihad are considering a move for RB Leipzig defender Abdoul Kone during the next winter transfer window, with the 21-year-old potentially set to leave the Bundesliga club after only a few months in Germany, according to Foot Mercato.
The French central defender, who is of Ivorian origin, has struggled to establish himself since joining Leipzig. He signed for the club in January for about 21 million euros before immediately returning to Stade de Reims on loan for the remainder of the season.
Kone made 28 appearances in Ligue 2 during his time with the Champagne-based side, but his opportunities have been severely restricted since moving permanently to Germany.
The defender has played in only one official match for RB Leipzig this season. His sole appearance came against Elversberg on 24 October, when he was given just three minutes in a 4-0 victory.
That lack of playing time could open the door to a departure in January, with Al Ittihad monitoring his situation and considering whether to offer him the chance to revive his career in Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi club’s interest may now test Leipzig’s willingness to part with a player for whom they made a significant investment less than two years ago. Kone remains under contract with RB Leipzig until 30 June 2031, while his estimated market value is currently 15 million euros.
A decision will therefore depend on the German club’s position, as well as whether Al Ittihad formalise their interest during the winter transfer window.
