Azzedine Ounahi has undergone successful surgery on his right hamstring, with the Panathinaikos midfielder expected to be out of action for several months.
The operation was carried out to repair the biceps femoris tendon in Ounahi’s right leg, Panathinaikos confirmed in a statement shared on the club’s social media accounts.
However, according to Foot Mercato, it was the identity of Ounahi’s first visitor following the procedure that attracted particular attention.
Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi visited his Morocco team-mate in person to check on his condition and offer support during what is expected to be a difficult period for the midfielder.
“Today, Ounahi underwent successful surgery to repair the biceps femoris tendon in his right leg. His first visitor was someone of equally high standing: Achraf Hakimi,” Panathinaikos said on its social media accounts.
The Greek club also revealed the members of the medical team involved in the operation. Panathinaikos doctor Harris Lalous worked alongside orthopaedic surgeon Nicolas Lefevre and Christophe Baudot, the Morocco national team doctor and medical consultant at Paris Saint-Germain.
Ounahi will now begin a lengthy rehabilitation programme before he can return to competitive football.
During that recovery, the Morocco midfielder will be able to rely on the support of those close to him and his international team-mates, with Hakimi among those offering assistance.
