Gambian striker Suleiman Camara scored Slovan Bratislava’s only goal as the Slovakian side suffered a heavy 6-1 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes.
Camara’s strike, scored in the 58th minute, was his third goal of this season’s Champions League campaign, including the qualifying rounds.
The striker made his first appearance in the Champions League group stage against the reigning European champions and provided Slovan with a moment of quality despite their difficult night in Paris.
By the time Camara scored, PSG had already built a commanding 5-0 lead.
The Gambian reduced the deficit with an impressive individual effort after receiving the ball on the left. He initially slowed his movement before accelerating beyond his marker and cutting inside near the byline.
Camara then created space for himself and curled his effort into the far corner to give Slovan a consolation goal.
PSG responded with a sixth goal later in the match to complete a convincing victory, but Camara’s contribution continued an impressive personal run in the competition.
The goal in Paris follows two strikes from the Gambian during the qualifying stages.
Camara opened his Champions League account on 4 August against Swedish side Mjällby.
With Slovan trailing, he equalised in the 78th minute to help his side complete a 2-1 comeback victory. He then turned provider, assisting Manasse Kianga for the winning goal in stoppage time.
The Gambian was again on target in the return leg in Bratislava a week later.
He opened the scoring in the 47th minute as Slovan secured a 2-0 victory, a result that confirmed their qualification for the next round.
His goal against PSG means Camara has now scored three times in the European campaign.
His latest effort also provided a rare positive moment for Slovan, who were unable to cope with the quality of the French champions.
PSG opened the scoring after 17 minutes through Ballon d’Or winner Dembele, who reacted quickest to a rebound after Nuno Mendes’ powerful effort struck the post.
Dembele doubled the advantage six minutes later when Slovan were punished for attempting to play out from the back. He headed in from Dro Fernandez’s deflected cross.
The PSG forward then turned provider, delivering a cross into the six-yard box for Torres to finish from close range.
Torres added his second two minutes after half-time after combining with Maghnes Akliouche before producing a fine finish.
He completed his hat-trick when he converted Dembele’s corner from inside a crowded penalty area.
Camara’s goal briefly gave the visitors something to celebrate before PSG restored their five-goal advantage.
Fabian Ruiz then added a sixth goal late in the game, completing a convincing European victory for PSG.
Slovan are managed by former Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure, but the Slovakian side were unable to prevent PSG from dominating the contest.
For Camara, however, the night offered another opportunity to showcase his finishing ability on one of European football’s biggest stages.
The Gambian has now scored in each of the stages of Slovan’s Champions League campaign, having found the net twice during qualifying before scoring against PSG in the group stage.
PSG’s victory was particularly significant given their difficult start to the Ligue 1 season.
