Achraf Hakimi has endured a difficult start to the new season at Paris Saint-Germain, with his performances and statistics falling well below the level expected from one of the world’s leading right-backs.
The Morocco international has failed to score or provide an assist in his first five matches for the French champions, a run that has attracted growing attention because of his normally significant attacking contribution.
Hakimi’s struggles have been reflected in his match ratings and his overall influence, with the right-back unable to make a decisive impact as PSG have experienced a challenging opening to the campaign.
In the European Super Cup against Aston Villa, Hakimi played the entire match as PSG secured a 2-1 victory. However, he offered little in attack and finished with a 6.9 rating from SofaScore.
His performance in the French Super Cup was only marginally better. PSG were beaten 1-0 by Lens, with Hakimi completing all 90 minutes and receiving a rating of 7.0. Despite his presence on the right side, PSG struggled to find attacking solutions.
The French league has also provided little relief for the 27-year-old.
PSG were held to a 2-2 draw by Rennes, with Hakimi receiving a 6.2 rating, before another 2-2 draw against Lille, where his rating was 6.5.
The situation became more concerning during the meeting with Monaco, as PSG suffered a 2-1 defeat and Hakimi produced what was described as one of his weakest performances for the club.
He received a rating of just 5.3, while his defensive statistics highlighted the difficulties he experienced throughout the match.
Hakimi recorded no successful defensive interventions, interceptions, clearances or blocked shots against Monaco. He also struggled in individual battles, winning just one of eight ground duels.
The PSG defender was dribbled past twice and recovered possession seven times, figures that underlined his lack of defensive security on the right flank.
His problems have not been limited to defensive work. According to figures from the WinWin app, Hakimi has lost possession 63 times in the French league, the highest figure among the players listed.
He has also recorded the most unsuccessful short passes, with 28.
The statistics have therefore intensified questions over the Moroccan’s current level, particularly with PSG facing important continental and domestic commitments ahead.
For a player who has established himself as a key figure on the right side, the early-season numbers represent an unusual decline and suggest that Hakimi will need to rediscover his form quickly.
