Bayern Munich abandoned their attempt to sign Gordon because of the player’s high price and instead made Ismael Saibari their leading target, sporting director Max Eberl said after the German Cup match.
Eberl explained that Bayern had initially explored a move for Gordon, but the financial demands involved made a deal difficult to pursue. With that option no longer considered viable, the club turned its attention to Saibari and ultimately completed the signing.
The decision was not presented as being dependent on the situation involving Jamal Musiala. Eberl said Bayern had already identified the need to add another forward, regardless of what happened with Musiala.
That planning followed the end of Nicolas Jackson’s loan spell. According to Eberl, Bayern had intended to bring in an attacking player once Jackson’s temporary period with the club was over, meaning the move for Saibari formed part of a wider squad plan rather than being a response to one individual player’s circumstances.
Saibari’s versatility was a key factor in Bayern’s decision. Eberl highlighted the player’s ability to operate on either wing, while also pointing out that he can fill four different positions across the attack. That flexibility made Saibari an especially suitable option for Bayern’s requirements.
The comments clarify how Bayern’s recruitment process changed direction. Gordon was the club’s initial focus, but his price led them to assess other possibilities.
