Former Milan forward Alexandre Pato says he hopes it will be the Rossoneri’s turn to win Serie A, while backing coach Amorim, praising Goncalo Ramos and Luka Modric, and reflecting on his own memorable years at the club.
Pato, who remains deeply attached to Milan, believes both Milan and Inter have the quality to compete for the championship this season. He also warned that Napoli cannot be overlooked in the title race.
“Inter has celebrated enough, now it’s Milan’s turn,” said the Brazilian, who hopes Milan can soon return to the latter stages of the Champions League and reach the final.
The 36-year-old has particularly vivid memories of matches between Milan and Juventus. He recalled scoring against Mannini in Turin and setting up Ronaldinho to score against Gianluigi Buffon at San Siro.
He also remembered meeting Juventus great Alessandro Del Piero shortly after arriving in Italy. Pato visited Del Piero without making an appointment, but was warmly received. The pair had dinner together, with Del Piero paying the bill.
Pato said both clubs remain historic giants and acknowledged the strength of each side, but made clear where his loyalties lie as Milan seek another league title.
Praise for Amorim and Ramos
Pato is an admirer of Amorim’s attacking approach and believes it reflects the traditions associated with Milan.
“Amorim is very capable, but he has just taken over the team and needs time to familiarize himself with the entire squad and adapt to the intensity of Serie A. I have a feeling he can bring surprises to fans this season.”
He is similarly confident that Goncalo Ramos can make a major impact. Pato said he had followed the striker’s performances at the World Cup and believes the Portugal international offers far more than a conventional target-man presence.
“I am 100% confident in him. I saw his performances at the World Cup, and he is very strong. He is not a traditional target man; he moves flexibly, drops back to participate in build-up play, creates opportunities, and can also drift wide to create space for teammates to run into. I genuinely hope he can score many goals.”
Pato also spoke enthusiastically about Modric, admiring the Croatian midfielder’s quality and intelligence on the ball. He imagined how impressive it would have been to see Modric play alongside Milan legends such as Massimo Ambrosini, Gennaro Gattuso, Andrea Pirlo, Clarence Seedorf and Kaka.
He hopes Modric can add another championship medal to his career at Milan.
Pato had hoped to train with Milan last year but missed the chance because his son was beginning school for the first time. He now watches every Milan match on television and plans to take his son to San Siro to experience the atmosphere in person.
The former forward also discussed the EA FC game, saying Nesta and Pirlo had been the best players in the Milan team during his time there. His own character was also popular with supporters, something he attributed to the club’s influence.
Asked whether he could return to Milan in an official role, Pato said the possibility could not be ruled out. He added that he was still learning and that returning to the club remained a strong personal desire.
Pato backs Ancelotti for Brazil
Pato also expressed his support for Carlo Ancelotti continuing as Brazil manager. He argued that Ancelotti should not be judged too harshly because he has had limited time to prepare the national team for the World Cup.
In Pato’s view, extending Ancelotti’s contract until 2030 would give the Italian the opportunity to plan properly and work with greater calm.
He also commented on Leonardo and Paolo Maldini leaving Italian football, saying people outside the clubs could not fully understand the internal circumstances behind those decisions. Pato wished both men a swift return to the football industry so they could shine again.
