Lazio have confirmed that French defender Samuel Gigot has left the club after his contract was ended by mutual consent.
The Italian club announced the decision on their official website, bringing Gigot’s time in Rome to a close. The 32-year-old had not played during the current season because of back problems.
Gigot joined Lazio in 2023 and made 23 appearances for the club. During that period, he scored two goals and provided one assist.
His departure follows an agreement between the player and the club to terminate the existing contract. Lazio did not provide any further details about the terms of the settlement or the defender’s next move.
Gigot’s absence from the pitch this season had been linked to his ongoing back problems. As a result, he was yet to make an appearance before the decision to end his agreement with Lazio was announced.
The defender arrived at Lazio after building a career across several European clubs. He is particularly known for his time with Spartak Moscow, where he played before moving on to Marseille. He also represented Gent and other clubs during his career.
Although his spell with Lazio produced limited statistical returns, Gigot recorded two goals and an assist in his 23 appearances for the club. His time in Italy has now formally ended, with both sides agreeing to separate before the conclusion of the current campaign.
Gigot’s estimated market value is €1.2m, according to Transfermarkt. That figure reflects the current valuation listed for the defender, although it has no bearing on the agreement reached between him and Lazio.
