Deportivo agree deal to bring in Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado

Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado is set to join Deportivo on loan after the two clubs reached a verbal agreement over the 22-year-old, according to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The proposed deal includes an option for Deportivo to sign the Spain midfielder permanently for €30m. The transfer is not yet fully complete, with the clubs required to settle the remaining formalities before the move can be confirmed.

Casado has made 75 appearances for Barcelona’s first team since breaking into the senior squad. However, he has not been included in a single matchday squad by manager Hans-Dieter Flick during the current season, creating the possibility of a temporary move away from the club.

The agreement would take Casado to Deportivo, who returned to La Liga after finishing second in the Segunda last season. The club’s promotion brought them back to Spain’s top division, and they have made a positive start to life among the elite.

Deportivo currently sit eighth in the La Liga table with five points. Casado’s potential arrival would therefore come as the club continue their campaign after securing promotion at the end of the previous season.

For Barcelona, the arrangement would provide their young midfielder with the opportunity to move to another La Liga side while retaining the possibility of a permanent transfer through the €30m purchase option. The agreement remains subject to the completion of the outstanding administrative details.

No final announcement has yet been made by either club. The verbal understanding reported by Romano means the principal terms of the move have been established, but the loan will only be concluded once the remaining formalities are completed.

Casado’s 75 senior appearances for Barcelona underline his experience at first-team level, although his lack of involvement under Flick this season has left him outside the manager’s plans so far. Deportivo are now close to securing his services as they continue their return to the top tier.

The move would see Casado remain in La Liga, with Deportivo offering him a route back into regular competitive football. The proposed €30m option would also allow the club to decide later whether to make the transfer permanent, while Barcelona would retain the choice of allowing the loan arrangement to conclude without a permanent sale.

For now, the deal is at the verbal-agreement stage. The clubs only need to resolve the final formalities before Casado can complete his switch from Barcelona to Deportivo.
