Bologna have signed Belgian forward Samuel Mbangula on loan from Werder Bremen until 30 June 2027, with an option to buy.
The 22-year-old, born in 2004, becomes the seventh Belgian player in Bologna’s history. He mainly operates as a winger and is known for his pace, technical ability and confidence in one-on-one situations.
Mbangula was born in Brussels and began his football education in the Club Brugge academy before moving to Anderlecht. He joined the Juventus youth set-up in the summer of 2020, where he developed through the club’s Under-17 and other youth sides.
During his time with Juventus’ academy, Mbangula made 57 appearances, scoring 12 goals and providing five assists. He also played seven matches in the UEFA Youth League.
His progression led to a first step into senior football with Juventus Next Gen during the 2023-24 season. Mbangula featured 25 times as he gained experience at professional level, with his performances earning him promotion to Juventus’ first team.
He made his senior Juventus debut, and his first appearance in Serie A, on 19 August 2024 against Como. Mbangula marked the occasion by scoring in the 23rd minute.
The winger made 32 appearances for Juventus in all competitions during the 2024-25 campaign, recording four goals and five assists. He also played in the UEFA Champions League.
Mbangula moved to Werder Bremen in the summer of 2025 to begin his Bundesliga career. In his first season with the German club, he played 26 league matches, scoring three goals and registering two assists.
His displays were particularly notable on the left wing, where his attacking qualities became a regular feature of his game.
At international level, Mbangula has represented Belgium from Under-15 through to Under-21 level. He has played for the country’s U15, U16, U17, U18, U19, U20 and U21 teams.
He received his first call-up to the Belgium senior squad in November 2024.
The move to Bologna represents the next stage of Mbangula’s professional career, with the Italian club holding the option to make his transfer permanent at the end of the loan period.
Bologna have confirmed that the agreement runs until 30 June 2027.
