Jonathan David is set to leave Juventus for Atletico after the two clubs reached an agreement over a loan move for the 26-year-old Canada striker, according to well-known transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The proposed deal will allow Atletico to sign David on a temporary basis, with an option to make the transfer permanent. The Madrid club will also cover more than half of the forward’s salary during the loan spell.
The agreement would bring an early end to David’s time in Turin, where he joined Juventus in the summer of 2025. He arrived after his contract with Lille expired and signed a long-term deal with the Italian club running until June 2030.
David has made 47 appearances for Juventus since moving to the club. During that period, he has scored eight goals and provided five assists.
The Canada international’s next stage is expected to come in Spain, with Atletico agreeing terms with Juventus for the loan. The arrangement includes a purchase option, meaning the Madrid side will have the choice to complete a permanent transfer rather than being committed to doing so.
David’s move to Juventus came after his spell with Lille ended, and he had been contracted to the Turin club until 2030. However, after one season in Italy, the striker now appears poised to continue his career with Atletico.
Romano reported the agreement between the two clubs, with Atletico also taking responsibility for the majority of David’s wages. The precise terms of the purchase option have not been stated.
The forward’s Juventus record stands at eight goals and five assists in 47 matches. He will now join an Atletico side that has secured the opportunity to assess him during the loan period before deciding whether to make his move permanent.
For Juventus, the agreement would see a player signed on a free transfer after the end of his Lille contract depart on loan less than a year after arriving in Turin. For David, it represents a move from Italy to Spain while retaining the option of a longer-term future in Madrid.
Neither club has provided further details beyond the agreement reported by Romano, but the central elements of the proposed transfer are clear: David will join Atletico on loan, the deal will include an option to buy, and Atletico will pay more than half of his salary.
