Marc Casado is facing a decisive period over his Barcelona future, with Bayer Leverkusen now emerging as a serious contender for the midfielder during the current summer transfer window.
The 22-year-old is also being pursued by Besiktas, who have continued to apply pressure in an effort to secure his signature before the end of the transfer period. The Turkish club and Bayer Leverkusen are currently regarded as the two most serious candidates to sign Casado.
Casado is one of the Barcelona players who could leave the club during the final phase of the market. His situation is expected to be resolved in the closing days of the window, with the midfielder waiting for clarity over where he will continue his career.
A move to Germany could prove particularly attractive. Bayer Leverkusen’s project is understood to match several of the qualities associated with Casado, who developed through Barcelona’s La Masia academy. The German club’s commitment to young players and its playing philosophy offer similarities with the approach traditionally associated with Barcelona.
That alignment could be an important consideration for Casado as he assesses his options. Bayer Leverkusen would offer him the opportunity to join a team still developing while potentially giving him a prominent role within a side willing to place significant responsibility on young talent.
The move would also allow the academy graduate to continue his development in a leading competition, the Bundesliga. Leverkusen’s interest therefore represents more than a possible change of club, with the project itself likely to be central to the midfielder’s decision.
Another factor in the German option is the identity of the club’s head coach. Bayer Leverkusen are being led this season by Carles Martinez, the Catalan manager who is beginning his first campaign in charge of the German side. Martinez knows Casado well and is familiar with the midfielder’s development through Barcelona’s academy.
That knowledge could give Bayer Leverkusen an additional advantage as Casado considers the proposal. The coach’s understanding of his background and development may make the Bundesliga club an especially appealing destination.
Besiktas remain determined to complete a deal, however, and have maintained their pursuit during the final days of the transfer window. Their continued interest means Casado has at least two clubs making a serious effort to recruit him.
There has also been attention from the Premier League. Several English clubs have made enquiries about Casado’s circumstances, including Everton, but that interest has not yet progressed to the point of a formal offer or advanced negotiations.
For now, Bayer Leverkusen and Besiktas remain the clearest options, while Casado waits for a decision that could determine the next stage of his career away from Barcelona.
