Julian Alvarez back with Atletico de Madrid squad after unexplained absence

Julian Alvarez has returned to full training with Atletico de Madrid, according to Spanish newspaper Diario AS, after missing several days of preparation because of reported discomfort.

The Argentina international was seen taking part in a training session with the rest of the Atletico squad in a short video published by the outlet. His presence provides the first indication that he has resumed normal work with the Madrid club after his recent absence.

Alvarez had been unavailable for a number of training days, with illness given as the reason. However, it has also been suggested that the forward’s absence was connected to a possible move to Barcelona.

Despite the transfer speculation, Atletico de Madrid’s hierarchy did not allow the 26-year-old to leave. The club therefore retained Alvarez, while Barcelona were unable to complete a deal for the striker.

The forward was subsequently absent from Atletico’s La Liga match against Sevilla in the third round of the season, which Diego Simeone’s side won 3-1. His return to group training comes after he missed that fixture.

Alvarez has featured in only one match so far this season and has not recorded a goal or an assist. His latest appearance in training could give Atletico a potential boost, although no further details about his condition or his availability for the club’s next fixture were provided in the report.

The video released by Diario AS was brief, but it showed Alvarez among Atletico’s players during the session. That footage was cited as evidence of his return to work alongside the squad.

The episode has added to uncertainty around the forward’s immediate situation at Atletico de Madrid. While the club did not sanction a transfer, speculation over Barcelona’s interest continued after Alvarez missed training and then sat out the victory over Sevilla.

For now, the striker remains an Atletico player and has rejoined the group as the Madrid club continues its preparations for the rest of the campaign. His limited involvement at the start of the new season means his return will be closely watched, particularly after he missed the third-round match and has yet to contribute a goal or assist.
