Fulham open talks with Roma over Matias Soule transfer

Fulham have approached Roma about a possible deal for Argentina forward Matias Soule, with the Premier League club making their interest known during the final week of the summer transfer window.

Reports from Italy, including Sky Sport Italia, say Marco Silva’s side are considering a move for the 23-year-old before the window closes on 1 September. Soule is among a number of players to have attracted interest from clubs across Europe this summer, with Milan also linked with him.

No specific transfer fee was reported in Sunday’s update. However, earlier reports suggested Roma would be looking for about €30m to allow Soule to leave this summer.

The Argentine remains under contract with Roma until the summer of 2029, giving the Italian club a strong negotiating position if Fulham decide to pursue their interest with a formal offer.

Soule joined Roma after establishing himself in Serie A and has continued to be viewed as a player with significant attacking potential. Fulham’s interest comes as they assess their options before the transfer deadline, while Roma are also attempting to reshape their forward line before the window shuts.

Roma are understood to be seeking at least one new attacking player this summer, and could bring in two if suitable opportunities become available.

Sky Sport Italia reports that the club are exploring possible moves for Chelsea forward Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, VfB Stuttgart’s Jamie Leweling and Zenit St. Petersburg attacker Luiz Henrique.

Roma have already shown interest in Leweling, but their reported proposal for the Germany international was rejected. The offer consisted of a €5m season-long loan, with a potential obligation to buy worth €35m included in the agreement.

That leaves Roma continuing to examine alternative attacking targets at a time when Fulham are considering whether to step up their pursuit of Soule. The London club would need to reach an agreement with Roma before the deadline if they are to complete a deal this summer.

Soule’s long-term contract could make negotiations difficult, particularly with Roma themselves looking to strengthen in attack rather than weaken their squad. Nevertheless, Fulham’s reported approach means the Argentine is now part of the Premier League club’s late-window planning.

Several European clubs have been credited with an interest in the player this summer, although no agreement has yet been reported. The latest developments indicate that Fulham have joined the group of sides monitoring his situation as the 1 September deadline approaches.
