Manchester City are preparing to make a formal offer for Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez before the summer transfer window closes, with a proposed fee of about £130m potentially making him the most expensive signing in English football.
The Premier League champions are expected to present their offer for the Argentina international in the coming days. According to prominent football insider Gaston Edul, Manchester City are willing to pay approximately £130m for the 25-year-old, equivalent to about €152m.
If the transfer is completed on those terms, it would set a new record for the biggest fee in English football. Fernandez currently plays for Chelsea, but the London club could face a major decision if Manchester City follow through with the proposed bid.
The current Premier League transfer record belongs to Alexander Isak, who moved from Newcastle United to Liverpool for €145m. A deal for Fernandez at the reported valuation would therefore surpass the fee paid for the Sweden international.
Fernandez could also be offered a substantial increase on his current salary as part of a possible move to Manchester City. The midfielder would have to decide whether to accept the transfer if the clubs reach an agreement on the fee and personal terms.
