Ajax have set a €60m (£51.7m) valuation for Belgian winger Mika Godts as Paris Saint-Germain push to complete a summer move for the forward.
Godts has reportedly agreed personal terms with Paris Saint-Germain after negotiations over a potential transfer, leaving Ajax as the only remaining party required to approve the deal, according to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo.
The Dutch club are making every effort to keep the winger in Amsterdam, but understand they may be unable to prevent his departure if Paris Saint-Germain meet the €60m asking price.
Jordi Cruyff, Ajax’s sporting director, said on Saturday that the club wanted Godts to remain for another season because they “need him”. However, Dutch media reported on Sunday that the player had reached an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain.
Mundo Deportivo described the situation in direct terms, saying: “In other words, Godts wants to leave. When a player wants to leave, it is difficult to stop him.”
De Telegraaf reported that Ajax would probably accept the proposed fee, given that €60m represents a significant sum for the club.
Should Ajax and Paris Saint-Germain reach a final agreement, Godts is expected to sign a contract running until the middle of 2031 or 2032. The deal would see him continue his career at Parc des Princes.
Godts’ agent, Niels de Jong, told De Telegraaf: “We will find a solution.”
Paris Saint-Germain are seeking to strengthen their squad with new signings as they look to remain at the top of European football. The French club have won the Champions League twice in succession and are now pursuing an attacking addition in the form of Godts.
Ajax’s position is therefore central to whether the transfer goes ahead. While Cruyff has publicly expressed the club’s desire to retain the winger, reports in Spain and the Netherlands indicate that the player’s preference is to join Paris Saint-Germain.
The proposed €60m fee is the figure that could determine the outcome. Ajax are reluctant to lose Godts, but the scale of the offer means they are likely to consider allowing the move if Paris Saint-Germain formally meet their valuation.
For now, the transfer depends on an agreement between the two clubs. Godts has already negotiated the terms of his possible move with Paris Saint-Germain, while Ajax must decide whether the financial package is sufficient to sanction his departure.
