Tunisia centre-back Wael Ben Othmane has joined Stade Gabesien from Libya’s Al-Ta’awon on a free transfer, bringing the 30-year-old defender back to Tunisian football.
Ben Othmane completed the move on 31 July 2026 after one year with Al-Ta’awon. He had joined the Libyan club from Iraq’s Newroz SC in July 2025, having previously spent time with Al-Shoulla and Al-Talaba SC.
The right-footed defender brings experience from several leagues across North Africa and the Middle East. His career record includes 46 Ligue 1 appearances and two goals, as well as 26 outings in the Iraq Stars League, where he scored once and provided one assist.
Ben Othmane began his senior career with CS Bembla before moving to AS Rejiche in 2019. He later joined US Monastir in January 2023, making the switch after two-and-a-half seasons with AS Rejiche. His move to US Monastir was followed by a free transfer to Al-Talaba in January 2024.
The defender then moved between clubs during the 2024-25 campaign, leaving Al-Talaba for Al-Shoulla in September 2024 before joining Newroz SC in January 2025. He spent the following season with Newroz before moving to Al-Ta’awon.
His career statistics also include appearances in the Tunisian Cup, where he has scored once, along with matches in the Iraq FA Cup. He has been registered in competitions including the CAF Confederation Cup, although no appearances are recorded in that tournament.
Stade Gabesien have secured a player with experience in central defence and a playing history that spans Tunisia, Iraq and Libya. Ben Othmane’s market value is listed at €150,000, while his highest recorded value was €600,000.
The move marks the latest stage of a career that has taken the defender through clubs in three countries. He has now signed for Stade Gabesien on a contract running until 30 June 2028.
