French club Stade Rennais FC remain determined to bring back Moroccan defender Nayef Aguerd this summer, despite financial challenges complicating a potential deal.
Rennes still consider the Nayef Aguerd as a priority target as they look to strengthen their defence ahead of the new season. However, the club faces a major hurdle with the defender’s reported €15 million release clause.
The clause reportedly requires the full amount to be paid in one installment before its expiration on July 31, leaving Rennes with little room to negotiate alternative payment structures.
Despite the financial challenge, Aguerd remains highly valued by Rennes due to his successful first spell at the club. The Moroccan centre-back established himself as one of Ligue 1’s top defenders during his time in Brittany, impressing with his leadership, composure and defensive reliability.
His performances at Rennes eventually earned him a move to the Premier League, where he continued to build his reputation as one of Morocco’s leading defenders.
Rennes’ pursuit of Aguerd also comes as the club continues to assess other defensive options in the transfer market.
The French side is monitoring several alternatives, including Argentine defender Facundo Medina, who is reportedly attracting interest from Bayer Leverkusen.
Meanwhile, Leonardo Balerdi has also been linked with a possible move away, with clubs in Serie A reportedly interested in the defender.
