Bilal Nadir has completed a move to Hamburg on a free transfer after his contract with Olympique de Marseille expired, signing a three-year deal with the Bundesliga club.
The 22-year-old French-Moroccan midfielder, who was out of contract at the end of the season, has opted to continue his career in Germany following his departure from OM.
Hamburg have confirmed that Nadir has agreed a long-term contract running until 2029, bringing an end to his time at the Ligue 1 side and marking his first move abroad.
The club stated that the former Marseille player will be expected to add technical quality to their midfield while also pushing himself to raise his level in order to earn regular playing time.
Hamburg’s delight at securing the deal was underlined in their announcement on the club’s official channels, where they wrote: “Le milieu de terrain maroco-francais nous rejoint libre en provenance de l’Olympique de Marseille et signe un contrat a long terme”.
Nadir, who had been linked with a switch to Germany once it became clear he would not be renewing his contract at OM, now faces the challenge of establishing himself in the Bundesliga after leaving his boyhood club as a free agent.
Having reached the end of his agreement in Marseille without an extension being agreed, he was free to negotiate with other clubs and has chosen Hamburg as the next step in his career.
The move offers the midfielder an opportunity to secure more consistent first-team minutes in a new environment, with Hamburg making clear they see him as a player who can contribute immediately while developing further over the coming seasons.
With the deal now official, Nadir becomes the latest player to leave Ligue 1 for the German top flight, as Hamburg continue to reshape their squad with an emphasis on young talent tied to long-term contracts.
