Argentina forward Julian Alvarez has spoken publicly for the first time since the national team’s agonising defeat to Spain in the 2026 World Cup final – while his future at club level remains uncertain amid an offer from Barcelona.
The Atletico Madrid striker, who played a key role in Argentina’s run to the final, posted an emotional message on Instagram, thanking fans and vowing that the team would come back stronger despite missing out on lifting the trophy.

In his social media message, Alvarez paid tribute to supporters across the country after the narrow loss to Spain, which denied Argentina a chance to reclaim the World Cup title.
He wrote: “لدي امتنان ابدي لجميع الارجنتينيين على التواجد الدايم بالتشجيع والدعم والايمان حتى النهاية. لقد كنا جميعا نحلم بجلب الكاس الى الوطن، ولكن بغض النظر عن النتيجة، لن ننسى ابدا ما عشناه وشعرنا به خلال هذه الايام الخمسين”.
Translated, Alvarez says he has “eternal gratitude” for Argentines for their constant encouragement, support and belief, adding that while the team had all dreamed of bringing the trophy home, the experiences and emotions of the 50 days spent together would never be forgotten.
The 26-year-old, who already has a World Cup winner’s medal from 2022, also reflected on what it means to represent his country on the biggest stage.
He continued: “الفوز امر جميل، ولكن تمثيل هذا العلم بتفان والتزام وقلب هو ما يعبر عنا”.
Alvarez stresses that while winning is “beautiful”, what truly defines the team is representing the Argentine flag “with dedication, commitment and heart”.

Alvarez used his statement not only to process the disappointment of defeat, but also to send a message about the resilience and mentality inside the Argentina camp.
He said: “سننهض ونتعلم ونستمر، لانه مهما حدث فنحن هكذا. نحن لا نفهم الحياة بطريقة اخرى، دايما نتجه الى الامام ونقاتل من اجل علمنا ونحلم بوضع الارجنتين في اعلى القمة”.
In English, he pledges that Argentina will “get up, learn and carry on”, insisting that, whatever happens, this is who they are – a team that only understands life by moving forward, fighting for its flag and dreaming of placing Argentina “at the very top”.
