French-Ivorian defender Sékou Fofana has completed a move to AJ Auxerre after signing a four-year contract with the French club from Swiss side Lausanne-Sport.
The 23-year-old left-back becomes Auxerre’s latest arrival of the summer transfer window as the club continues to strengthen its squad ahead of the new season.
Auxerre confirmed the signing on 8 July through their official social media channels, announcing that Fofana has agreed a long-term deal and will wear the number 93 shirt.
The move also marks a return to French football for the defender, whose development began in France before he continued his career abroad.
Fofana progressed through the youth systems of Montfermeil and AS Saint-Étienne before embarking on a professional career that included spells in both France and Switzerland.
Before joining Lausanne-Sport, he spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Avranches, where he established himself as one of the National league’s standout left-backs.
His performances earned him a return to Lausanne, where he went on to become a regular member of the first team.
During his time with the Swiss club, Fofana made 40 appearances, including eight in European competitions. Those performances highlighted his pace, defensive strength and ability to compete consistently at a higher level.
Auxerre believe those qualities will provide added competition and depth on the left side of their defence as they prepare for the upcoming campaign.
In announcing the transfer, the French club welcomed the defender to Burgundy and confirmed the length of his contract.
“AJA is delighted to announce the signing of Sékou Fofana for four years. The 23-year-old left-back joins from Lausanne Sport FC and will wear number 93.”
The signing represents another important step in Fofana’s career as he returns to France with valuable experience gained in Switzerland and the French lower divisions.
His familiarity with French football is also expected to ease his transition back into the domestic game, having previously represented Saint-Étienne’s academy and Avranches.
For Auxerre, recruiting a player with experience across multiple competitions aligns with their objective of strengthening the squad before the start of the new season.
The club view the French-Ivorian as a player capable of adding defensive solidity while also offering athleticism and versatility on the left flank.
