Medeama SC have been crowned champions of the 2025-26 Ghana Premier League after a commanding 5-2 victory over Heart of Lions at the TNA Stadium on Sunday.
The Tarkwa-based club secured the title with one game still to play after closest rivals Bibiani Gold Stars suffered defeat to Dreams FC earlier in the day, leaving Medeama beyond reach at the top of the table.
Knowing that victory would guarantee the championship if Gold Stars failed to win, Medeama produced an attacking display in front of their home supporters despite difficult weather conditions that delayed kick-off at the TNA Stadium.
Kelvin Obeng gave the hosts an early advantage in the 18th minute and later added a second before the interval as Medeama took firm control of the contest.
Heart of Lions managed to reduce the deficit during the match and briefly threatened to make the encounter competitive, but Medeama continued to dominate in attack and showed little sign of slowing down.
Derrick Fordjour scored twice in the second half to strengthen the home side’s grip on the game, while Prince Owusu also found the net late on to complete an emphatic performance on a day of celebration for the Tarkwa club.
Heart of Lions scored twice, including a late penalty converted by Etse Dogl, but Medeama’s superiority throughout the match ensured the result was never seriously in doubt.
The victory marks Medeama’s second Ghana Premier League title in the space of three years, underlining the club’s growing stature in Ghanaian football following their first championship success in 2023.
Their latest triumph also secures qualification for next season’s CAF Champions League, with Medeama set to represent Ghana once again on the continental stage.
The title-clinching performance reflected the determination of a side that entered the decisive fixture fully aware of what was required. News of Bibiani Gold Stars’ defeat earlier in the day meant the equation was simple for Medeama: a win would seal the championship immediately.
Despite the heavy rainfall that disrupted preparations and delayed the start of the match, Medeama quickly settled into rhythm once play began. Obeng’s opening goal lifted the home crowd and established the momentum that carried the team through the remainder of the contest.
By the time he added his second before half-time, the hosts had placed themselves firmly in command. Although Heart of Lions responded with goals of their own, Medeama consistently looked dangerous whenever they attacked.
Fordjour’s double in the second half effectively ended any hopes of a comeback from the visitors before Owusu’s late strike added further gloss to the scoreline.
The final whistle sparked celebrations among players and supporters as Medeama confirmed another major milestone in the club’s recent history.
Having first lifted the league trophy in 2023, Medeama have now secured a second title in three seasons and will once again turn their attention to competing against Africa’s leading clubs in the CAF Champions League next term.
