Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou could be set for a return to European football after reports linked him with Turkish club Fenerbahçe following his impressive performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Atlas Lions’ first-choice goalkeeper is said to have emerged as Fenerbahçe’s leading target as the Turkish club looks to strengthen its squad during the current transfer window.
It is understood the Turkish giants have identified the Morocco international as their preferred option between the posts.
However, any potential move would require negotiations with Saudi club Al Hilal, where Bounou remains under contract until 2028.
The reported interest follows another strong World Cup campaign from the 35-year-old, whose performances were among Morocco’s standout positives despite the team’s exit at the quarter-final stage.
Morocco’s tournament ended with a defeat to France, but Bounou’s displays throughout the competition reinforced his reputation as one of Africa’s most dependable goalkeepers.
He played a key role during the group stage before producing decisive performances in both the round of 32 and the round of 16 to help the Atlas Lions progress through the knockout rounds.
His quarter-final display against France also attracted attention after he denied Kylian Mbappé from the penalty spot, even though Morocco eventually bowed out of the competition.
Those performances appear to have strengthened his appeal in the transfer market, with Fenerbahçe now reportedly considering a move that would bring the experienced goalkeeper back to European football.
