Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly ruled out a move for Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson as head coach Roberto De Zerbi looks to strengthen his attacking options before the new season.
The north London club are seeking reinforcements in the final third but have decided that Jackson does not fit into their current transfer plans.
Instead, Tottenham’s focus has shifted towards adding quality in the wide areas, with Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo and Manchester City forward Savinho emerging as two of their main targets.
De Zerbi wants Tottenham to sign at least one high-level wide attacker before the transfer window closes as he continues to reshape the squad.
The Italian coach believes additional options on the flanks would complement the significant work already undertaken to strengthen midfield and defence.
Tottenham have been active in the transfer market this summer as De Zerbi attempts to assemble a squad capable of competing for major honours.
The club’s current priority is therefore not another central striker but an attacking player capable of operating in wider positions and fitting the manager’s tactical plans.
Jackson had been considered in the context of Tottenham’s search for attacking reinforcements, but the Chelsea forward is now understood to be outside their plans.
The Senegal international spent last season on loan with German champions Bayern Munich.
During his time in the Bundesliga, Jackson made 34 appearances across all competitions and scored 11 goals.
His return of 11 goals represented a respectable campaign in Germany, but it has not persuaded Tottenham to pursue a permanent move for the striker.
Instead, the club are concentrating their efforts on the wings.
Gakpo is among the players attracting Tottenham’s attention. The Liverpool winger has emerged as one of the options being considered as De Zerbi seeks to improve his attacking resources.
Savinho is another prominent target. The Brazilian winger currently plays for Manchester City and has also been identified as a player who could strengthen Tottenham’s wide attacking options.
The interest in the two wide players reflects De Zerbi’s priorities as he continues to shape the squad according to his preferred approach.
The manager wants at least one quality addition in those positions before the transfer window shuts.
Tottenham’s decision to move away from Jackson also indicates that their search for attacking reinforcements is being guided by specific tactical requirements rather than simply adding another forward.
