FC Sion have exercised their €3.5 million option to sign striker Winsley Boteli on a permanent deal following his successful loan spell, ending his time with German side Borussia Mönchengladbach.
The 19-year-old Swiss forward of Democratic Republic of Congo descent has now completed a full transfer to the Swiss club after a season that significantly raised his profile across European football.
The decision to activate the purchase clause was confirmed following strong performances in which Boteli scored eight goals in 34 league appearances.
His contributions proved valuable in FC Sion’s campaign and convinced the club’s hierarchy to secure his long-term future.
Boteli, who remains under contract with Borussia Mönchengladbach until June 2028, will now continue his development in Switzerland after making the switch permanent.
His progress has not gone unnoticed beyond Switzerland. Several European clubs are reportedly monitoring his situation, including Genoa CFC, Club Brugge and FC Midtjylland.
Boteli’s rise has also drawn attention because of his background, with the young forward representing a growing number of Francophone African-linked players making their mark in European leagues, particularly those with roots in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
His blend of physical presence and attacking instinct has been central to Sion’s decision to secure him permanently, with the club viewing him as a key part of their future squad planning.
The reported €3.5 million investment underlines the club’s belief in his potential, especially given his age and room for further development.
Although still early in his career, Boteli’s performances this season have positioned him as one of the more closely watched young forwards in the Swiss top flight.
For Borussia Mönchengladbach, the move marks the end of their control over a player who never fully broke into their senior plans, but who has now found a more stable platform to continue his growth.
Scouts across Europe are expected to continue monitoring his progress, particularly if he maintains or improves his current scoring output in Switzerland.
