Sofiane Boufal, the Moroccan-French attacking midfielder who is without a club, has been linked with a move to Esperance in Tunisia’s Ligue 1.
Boufal, 32, has been unattached since leaving Le Havre on 1 July, having joined the French club from Union Saint-Gilloise in January 2026. No transfer fee has been recorded for his departure.
The proposed move would take Boufal to a fourth country since 2023, following spells in Qatar, Belgium and France. He joined Union Saint-Gilloise from Al-Rayyan in September 2024 and helped the Belgian side win the league title in the 2024-25 season and the Belgian Cup in 2026.
A Paris-born attacking midfielder, Boufal began his senior career with Angers before moving to Lille in 2015. He subsequently spent time in the Premier League with Southampton and had a loan spell at Celta de Vigo before returning to France with Angers.
He has made 116 Ligue 1 appearances, scoring 28 goals and providing 24 assists. His other major league experience includes 70 Premier League appearances and 35 in La Liga.
Boufal’s current market valuation is €1.8m, down from a career high of €15m. The link with Esperance comes while he remains unattached, with his next club yet to be confirmed.
