Sofiane Boufal has rejected an offer from Esperance Sportive de Tunis and opted to continue his career in Europe, despite the Tunisian club’s willingness to meet his financial demands.
Esperance Sportive de Tunis are looking to strengthen their left wing and had identified the Morocco international as a potential signing. The club was prepared to offer Boufal the salary he wanted in an attempt to persuade him to move to Tunisia.
However, according to Radio Mars, the 32-year-old has decided against the proposal. The report said Boufal “preferred to continue his career in European football despite receiving an attractive offer” from the Tunisian club.
Boufal is currently a free agent after ending his short spell with French club Le Havre. During his time there, he reportedly earned a monthly salary of about €35,000, equivalent to approximately €420,000 a year.
His decision leaves him considering other opportunities in Europe as he weighs up the next step in his career. The Morocco international has not yet chosen his next club, with European offers still under review.
Boufal has made 47 appearances for Morocco and scored eight goals. He was an important member of the squad that reached the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, when Morocco became the first African team to reach the last four of the tournament.
His most recent international appearance came against Burundi in May. Despite his experience with the national team, Boufal was not included in Morocco’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.
The winger’s current market value is estimated at around €1.8m. He will now continue assessing the European proposals available to him before deciding where to take his career next.
Esperance Sportive de Tunis had hoped that its willingness to satisfy Boufal’s financial expectations would be enough to secure his signature. Instead, the player has made clear that remaining in European football is his preferred option, bringing an end to the club’s pursuit of the Morocco international for now.
