Senegalese prospect Cissokho signs first professional deal with Auxerre

AJ Auxerre have rewarded teenage winger Mamoudou Cissokho with his first professional contract after an impressive rise through the club’s youth ranks.

The French club announced on Monday that the 18-year-old has signed a deal running until June 2029, marking a significant milestone in the career of one of their most promising young players.

The development represents another encouraging story involving a young player of Senegalese heritage making progress in one of Europe’s leading football nations.

Cissokho’s journey at Auxerre has been rapid.

Having arrived from Versailles in January 2025, the winger quickly established himself as one of the standout performers within the club’s academy structure.

He initially featured for Auxerre’s Under-19 side before earning promotion to the reserve team, where his performances continued to attract attention.

His numbers reflected that progress.

The teenager scored four goals in just five appearances for the Under-19 team before adding another three goals in 14 matches for the reserve side.

Those displays convinced the club that he was ready for the next stage of his development.

Auxerre confirmed the agreement in an official statement celebrating the player’s emergence.

“Arriving from Versailles and already having appeared three times with the first team this season, Mamoudou has signed his first professional contract until June 2029.”

The contract is the latest reward for a player who has steadily climbed through the ranks since arriving in Burgundy.

His progress was not limited to youth football.

During the past season, Cissokho also received opportunities with the senior squad, making three first-team appearances.

He made appearances against Metz and Angers in Ligue 1, with Auxerre winning both matches 3-1.

The young winger also featured in the Coupe de France clash against Monaco.

Although his senior opportunities have so far been limited, those appearances provided valuable experience and offered a glimpse of what could lie ahead.

Auxerre believe Cissokho has the qualities required to develop into a first-team regular in the future.

The club highlighted both his achievements and potential while announcing the agreement.

“A new rising star of the club signs his first professional contract! AJA is delighted to announce that Mamoudou Cissokho has signed a contract until June 2029 with his boyhood club.”

The statement also reflected on his progression since joining from Versailles.

“Having arrived in Yonne in January 2025 from Versailles, Mamoudou first cut his teeth in U19 then N3, with a successful final season in both categories (4 goals in 5 matches with the U19s, 3 goals in 14 matches with the reserve).”

For Senegalese football supporters, Cissokho’s rise adds to the growing list of young talents with Senegalese roots making their mark in European football.

At a time when African players continue to play increasingly important roles across Europe’s major leagues, his development will be closely followed.

Signing a first professional contract is often regarded as one of the most important moments in a young player’s career.

For Cissokho, it provides security, recognition and a clear pathway toward regular first-team football.
