Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly moving forward in their pursuit of highly rated defender Ismaëlo Ganiou after the Burkina Faso international impressed during a breakthrough season with RC Lens.
The 21-year-old centre-back has emerged as one of the most talked-about young defenders in Ligue 1 following a campaign in which he helped Lens challenge near the top of French football while also winning the Coupe de France.
PSG manager Luis Enrique is a strong admirer of the defender and has approved efforts to bring him to the French champions during the next transfer window.
Discussions are said to have already begun between the two clubs over a possible transfer valued at around €40m, underlining the rapid rise in Ganiou’s reputation.
Born in France but representing Burkina Faso internationally, Ganiou has become one of the brightest emerging talents linked to Francophone African football.
His performances this season have drawn attention not only because of his defensive ability but also because of the maturity he has shown at such a young age.
Ganiou featured in 29 matches in all competitions during the campaign and scored three goals, helping Lens secure an impressive second-place finish in Ligue 1.
The defender’s rise has been closely connected to Lens’ remarkable season, with the northern French side once again proving capable of competing with wealthier clubs.
Reports suggest PSG view him as an ideal fit for Luis Enrique’s tactical approach, with the Spanish coach believed to value defenders who are comfortable under pressure and capable of playing progressive football from the back.
Lens, however, are understood to be reluctant to lose one of their most promising players.
The club reportedly believes Ganiou still has significant room for development and could become even more valuable if he continues progressing at the same pace over the coming seasons.
His current contract runs until June 2028, placing Lens in a strong negotiating position should PSG intensify their interest.
Despite that, the scale of the reported offer could create a difficult decision for the club.
Lens have previously balanced sporting competitiveness with financial stability through major player sales, and another significant transfer could allow them to reinvest across several areas of the squad.
For Ganiou, a move to PSG would represent the biggest step of his career so far.
Joining the Paris club would place him among some of the world’s top players while also giving him the opportunity to compete regularly in the UEFA Champions League.
Whether Lens can resist PSG’s growing interest could become one of the major transfer stories of the Ligue 1 summer window.
