Onuachu seeks end to goal drought in Turkish Cup final

Paul Onuachu will head into Trabzonspor’s crucial Ziraat Turkey Cup final under pressure to rediscover his scoring form after failing to score in his last seven official matches.

The Nigerian striker, who has been one of the standout attacking players in Turkish football this season, is expected to lead the line for Trabzonspor against Konyaspor at Corendon Airlines Park.

Despite his recent drought, Onuachu remains central to Trabzonspor’s hopes of lifting the cup.

The 31-year-old has not found the net in five Süper Lig fixtures and two cup matches, marking one of the longest barren runs of his time with the club.

However, his overall numbers this season underline his importance to the team.

Onuachu has scored 22 goals during the current campaign and sits joint top of the Süper Lig scoring charts alongside Eldor Shomurodov of İstanbul Başakşehir.

His goals have made him Trabzonspor’s leading attacking threat throughout the season and a key figure in the club’s push for silverware.

Attention has now turned to whether the striker can end his difficult spell in front of goal on one of the biggest occasions of the campaign.

The Turkish Cup final presents an opportunity for Onuachu not only to break the seven-match run without scoring, but also to reinforce his reputation as a player capable of delivering in decisive matches.

Trabzonspor’s coaching staff are understood to retain strong faith in the Nigerian’s ability, particularly given his record earlier in the season.

His physical presence and finishing ability have frequently provided the difference for the club, and there is hope within the team that the final could provide the ideal stage for a return to form.

The pressure surrounding the striker has increased because of his importance to Trabzonspor’s attack.

For much of the season, Onuachu has carried the responsibility of leading the scoring charts for the club while also competing for the league’s golden boot award.

Sharing the top scorer position with Shomurodov has kept him firmly in the spotlight heading into the final stages of the campaign.

Now, with silverware at stake, expectations remain high that the experienced forward can once again deliver when it matters most.

The final against Konyaspor is therefore seen as a defining moment both for Trabzonspor’s season and for Onuachu personally.

A goal in the showpiece occasion would not only end his longest recent dry spell but could also prove decisive in helping Trabzonspor secure the trophy.

All attention will now be on the Super Eagles striker as he attempts to rediscover his scoring touch and guide Trabzonspor to victory in one of the club’s most important matches of the season.
