RB Leipzig are expected to make a move for Algeria forward Mohamed Amoura as they prepare for the likely departure of Ivory Coast international Yan Diomande to Real Madrid.
Amoura is considered the leading candidate to replace Diomande at Leipzig, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano. The 26-year-old is set to leave Wolfsburg after two seasons with the club, which has been relegated to the second tier of German football.
His time at Wolfsburg ended against a particularly difficult background, with tensions reported between the player and the club’s management during his final campaign. Despite that uncertainty, Amoura is expected to remain in Germany rather than move abroad.
Benfica had renewed their interest in the Algeria international after coming close to signing him last summer. Everton have also been linked with a move in recent days. However, a switch to RB Leipzig now appears to be the most likely outcome.
Amoura’s agent says an agreement with the player’s next club is 80% complete, with the final details still being negotiated. Leipzig are believed to be in the strongest position to complete the deal.
The forward joined Wolfsburg in the summer of 2024 on loan from Union Saint-Gilloise, with an option to make the transfer permanent. During the most recent season, he made 33 appearances, starting 24 matches and recording eight goals and four assists.
Amoura remains under contract until June 2029, while his market value is estimated at 20m euros by Transfermarkt.
He has established himself as an important member of the Algeria squad, winning 47 international caps and scoring 19 goals. Leipzig see his pace, attacking versatility and experience in German football as qualities that could allow him to step into the role expected to be vacated by Diomande.
Diomande is expected to leave Leipzig for Real Madrid, creating the need for the Bundesliga club to act in the transfer market. Amoura, formerly of Setif, is now the player being identified as the ideal successor.
The proposed move would keep Amoura in the Bundesliga despite Wolfsburg’s relegation, while giving Leipzig a direct replacement for one of their attacking players. With negotiations reportedly advanced and only the last elements of the agreement to be settled, the Algeria forward’s future could be resolved soon.
