‘Lyon is the best place to progress’ – Burkina Faso defender Ouédraogo

Burkina Faso international Mohamed Ouédraogo has described his move to Lyon as the most significant step of his career, saying the French club offers the ideal environment to continue his development.

The 23-year-old left-back, who recently completed his move to Lyon, made the remarks in his first interview following the transfer, explaining that the club’s sporting project and the vision of the coaching staff were decisive factors in his decision.

For the defender, the move marks the reward for years of hard work and opens a new chapter at one of France’s most established clubs. He believes Lyon provides the right platform to develop further and fulfil his ambitions at the highest level.

“I feel immense pride and happiness. Signing for Lyon is a very important step in my career. I thank God, my family, my loved ones, and everyone who has supported me.

Now, the most important thing is to work hard, improve every day, and give everything for this club.”

Ouédraogo said he had no shortage of options before deciding on Lyon, with several clubs reportedly expressing interest during the summer transfer window. However, he insisted that his decision was made quickly once discussions with the French side progressed.

According to the Burkina Faso international, the club’s long-term sporting ambitions, together with the confidence shown in him by the coaching staff, convinced him that Lyon was the right destination.

“I had several interesting offers, but I chose Lyon because I had a very good feeling about the coach and the sporting project convinced me. I really liked his vision and the plans he has for me. I felt it was the best place to continue to progress and take the next step in my career.”

His arrival is another significant milestone for a player whose career has continued to move upwards.

Having established himself as a Burkina Faso international, Ouédraogo now has the opportunity to prove himself in one of Europe’s competitive leagues while representing one of French football’s biggest clubs.

The move is also seen as another positive development for Burkinabe football, with one of the country’s internationals joining a club renowned for developing players and competing at the highest level of French football.

Ouédraogo’s immediate focus will be on adapting to his new surroundings and earning a regular place in the squad.

His comments suggest he is fully aware of the expectations that come with representing Lyon, but he remains determined to justify the club’s faith in him through hard work and consistent performances.

Rather than dwelling on the achievement of securing the transfer, the defender made it clear that his priority is continued improvement.

He stressed that signing for Lyon is only the beginning of a new challenge and that his ambition is to establish himself at the club while continuing his development as both a player and an international.
