Kaizer Chiefs have intensified their efforts to sign Stellenbosch FC winger Faiz Abrahams, with the club exploring a season-long loan for the highly rated 21-year-old.
The proposed move is not yet complete, but negotiations between Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch FC are understood to be progressing without significant difficulty. Abrahams still has to agree personal terms before the transfer can be finalised, according to iDiski Times’ Sinethemba Makonco.
Kaizer Chiefs have now opened discussions with Stellenbosch FC and are believed to view a loan deal as the most likely outcome. If completed, the move would give Abrahams the opportunity to continue his development at one of South Africa’s most prominent clubs.
The winger has been one of the more closely watched young players during the current transfer window. Orlando Pirates previously considered making a permanent offer for him, but were unable to reach an agreement with Stellenbosch FC.
Durban City also came close to securing Abrahams on loan. That deal ultimately collapsed after the player could not agree personal terms, leaving Kaizer Chiefs as the latest club to enter the race for his signature.
Abrahams was born in Bishop Lavis and began his football journey in the Cape Town Spurs academy, when the club was still known as Ajax Cape Town. Following the club’s relegation, he decided not to sign a new contract and instead moved to Stellenbosch FC.
His progress quickly became clear at youth level. Abrahams scored 11 goals for Stellenbosch FC’s DStv Diski Challenge team and was named DDC Player of the Season.
Those performances led to his senior debut against Kaizer Chiefs during the closing stages of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season. The appearance offered an early indication of the attacking potential that has since attracted interest from several clubs.
Stellenbosch FC then sent Abrahams on loan to Israeli side Hapoel Kfar Saba for the 2025/26 campaign. He made a strong impression, scoring three goals and providing three assists in 11 appearances before returning to South Africa earlier than planned.
Abrahams is regarded as one of the country’s brightest young attacking prospects. His game is built around pace, direct running and the ability to beat defenders, qualities that have helped him attract attention from leading clubs in South Africa.
A move to Kaizer Chiefs would also see him become the club’s second signing from Stellenbosch FC during the current transfer window. The first was Langelihle Phili.
However, the deal for Abrahams remains dependent on the player reaching an agreement over personal terms. Until that happens, the proposed loan move cannot be completed.
