Hollywood actor Hugh Jackman says he is “very, very interested” in buying a stake in Norwich City, potentially setting up a Championship rivalry with his friend and Deadpool co-star Ryan Reynolds, who co-owns Wrexham.
Jackman, an Australian actor and lifelong Norwich supporter because his mother was originally from the city, said discussions about investing in English football were taking place now.
“I’m very, very interested – and talking about it right now,” Jackman told talkSPORT when asked whether he could become involved in the English game. “Good on Ryan, you do your thing, (but) I’m all about the Canaries.”
Reynolds owns Wrexham alongside fellow actor Rob McElhenney. The Welsh club have climbed from the National League to the Championship under their ownership, securing three successive promotions between 2022 and 2025.
Wrexham are now targeting a further rise to the Premier League, while Jackman believes Norwich can also earn promotion this year.
“I went to Carrow Road a couple of times, and I love the Canaries, and this is the year we’re going to get promoted. That’s my prediction,” he said.
“My prediction is Norwich and Wrexham are getting promoted this year.”
Jackman watched Wrexham in 2023 with Reynolds, who has become closely associated with the club since completing his takeover with McElhenney. A potential investment in Norwich would therefore give Jackman a direct interest in a club competing against his friend’s side in the Championship.
The Sydney-born actor, who is 57, has previously explained that he was offered the opportunity to invest in Norwich in 2010 but decided against it.
Reflecting on the decision in 2011, Jackman said: “Sometimes I make big mistakes. I got a letter about a year ago saying, being such a huge Norwich City fan would I like to be a celebrity investor? Like a small part-owner.
“I said, “I think that’s a little stretched, I’ve been to Carrow Road once, my mum took me”, so I decided not to invest. And since then they’re on a run, so what do I know?”
Norwich are now majority-owned by American billionaire Mark Attanasio, who first bought into the club in 2022 and gradually increased his stake.
Attanasio, who also owns Major League Baseball team the Milwaukee Brewers, assumed majority control in August 2024. He took over from Delia Smith and Michael Wynn Jones, who had previously been the club’s controlling owners.
